Welcome to Ariah's Angels — a place where fishkeeping is more than just a hobby, it’s a passion. 

This website was born out of my deep love for freshwater fish and the incredible world they inhabit. What started as a simple interest five years ago has grown into a lifelong journey, one I’m eager to share with fellow enthusiasts.

Santa Isabel Angelfish Overview

(Pterophyllum scalare)

The Santa Isabel Angelfish is an elegant freshwater species originating from the Rio Negro region of Brazil. Known for their graceful shape, bold vertical striping, and calm temperament.

Size & Lifespan

  • Maximum Size: around 9in 
     

  • Lifespan: 10 to 15 years

     

Tank Requirements

  • Recommended Tank Size: 55-75 gallons for a pair; 90+ gallon larger tanks for groups.
     

  • Water Temperature: 75–82°F (24–28°C)
     

  • pH Range: 6.5–7.2

  • Environment: A natural setup with driftwood, tall plants, gentle flow, and lots of swimming space to mimic their native habitat and support natural behavior. 

Diet

  • Feeding Type: Omnivore

  •  Foods: Live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia or  high-quality flake or pellet for cichlids.

  • Additional Options: Occasional vegetables like spinach or peas.
     

  • Feeding: Amount depends on age and size, but it is always advised to never feed more than they can eat within 3 minutes. For full grown fish, I generally feed once a day, 3-5 times a week. 

Recommended Tank Mates

Compatible Species:
 

  • Peaceful tetras 

  • Corydoras 

  • Plecos

  • Peaceful dwarf cichlids 

  • Gouramis (non-aggressive types)

Species to Avoid:
 

  • Fin-nipping species 

  • Aggressive cichlids

  • Small fish that could be mistaken for food
